I want to find out the attorney and beneficiary of a Rem Irrevocable Inter Vivos Trust who bought a NYC condo. Any suggestions?

Trust documents aren't public. The documents on ACRIS should give you the attorney, and if they were sloppy whoever signed the condo's power of attorney might be someone other than the attorney.

--Who is living in the condo unit? Can you get a name off a mailbox or buzzer. Most of these trusts are family affairs.
--Who is paying the property taxes?
--Voter registration data---Property Shark has this. Who is registered to vote there?
--Google the address, of course.
--Any mortgages, liens, permits pulled? Again Property Shark is good.
--Send a solicitation for a donation to your favorite nice charity. Send it certified mail return receipt requested. You want to find out who lives there, and then start learning about that person.

Also, I kinda don't think of this as piercing the veil, which is what corporations and LLCs are for. Trusts are not like shell corporations (unless I'm hopelessly behind the times). Mostly these are family things. R.E.M. is probably initials of somebody. The irrevocable part is rather interesting, there's a reason for that and it would be useful to know why--taxes are the usual reason--this could be super wealthy people. Probably the current resident is the beneficiary---find out if there is a lease for the unit. The property manager ought to know.

I'm wondering why you want to know the atty who wrote up the trust? Or the atty who was on the sell side of the purchase?

Right. If this is the REM at Manhattan House, there're non-lawyer names and addresses in town and in Dallas. I.e., it's not like an LLC where the main purpose is anonymity. Tarrant county probably has a parcel lookup where you can get names.

Why are you guys racing to answer questions from Pierce Brosnan? How do you know you are helping the good guy?

The co-trustee per the PoA is the mother, in Dallas, of the woman the mail goes to. That's per the wedding announcement in the paper. Spend a little time and you'll have their shoe sizes.

True. I always feel stupid after buying into somebody's cultivated helplessness.

No I am not Pierce Brosnan, the movie star. I used the word piercing in my title and when I had to come up with a handle I used the name Brosnan(Do you get it?) Anyway thanks for your help. I learned a lot.

Oh. And to think I was about to buy an Omega watch and a BMW and move to Bburg.
