Discussion about
i would like for you faithful readers to provide a short summary of the things you have gathered about the regular posters on this board. i'm curious because someone recently posted the question of whether someone was spunky rich or petrfitz rich. this means something to loyal readers, but i cannot figure it out. so i'd like people to start bios that read something like: Spunky: probably mid-50's.... [more]

btw, this is not just curiousity. the closer you are to the personal facts of each poster, the better i am able to gauge the "quality" of things that people say. obviously, this is with a grain of salt. but one's background does help me understand where you're coming from.

it goes without saying that you should leave out (very) personal information like exact address of residence and phone numbers, etc. ... but then again, if you're stupid enough to post that kind of info on this site, then maybe you deserve some blowback, haha.

dumberthanyou, this is an inappropriate question.

Moreover, you should always assume that everything about "people" on the internet is fictitious.

It's not like a big truck. It's a series of tubes.

why is this inappropriate? (this is not a rhetorical question, and it is not trying to be obnoxious. it is just a sincere question.)

sorry, but i have no idea what you mean by big truck or series of tubes.

I made the comment about Spunky rich or Petrfitz rich. I am glad that I can put a number on Petrfitz (cause from the way he talked I assumed he was richer than Spunky). However, I was hoping for a little more from Petrfitz. I believe there was a comment somewhere about the attractiveness of his significant other.

80's man: do you have a trophy wife who is a model, or do you have a trophy wife who is a super-model?

Yeah, please specify how attractive your significant other is and whether she is an heiress. That was definitely the most amusing discussion I've ever read. LOL!

I managed to make 10% on C while spunky made 0%, and my buy and sell date are documented on these pages.

zizizi is your fight with Spunky recent? Out of curiousity, what's it based on?
Please take these questions as 100% non-judgmental, I don't know anything about your dispute.

petrfitz, $11mill? that's it?

hmmm... and to post things like you scoff at those who are "only" worth $2-3 mill? i'm disappointed. i thought you were a real high roller. triple digit mills. $11 mill won't even put you on the map among the elites.

but having an ex-model heiress with super trust fund might get you on invites. oh well.

spunky - let us not forget 6-7 months ago or whenever it was that you bought C & MER, how deeply you defended the banks/IB's and those buys. I mean, how many fights did we all get into with you about the severity of this credit crisis in DEC/JAN/FEB?

Im curious, how are you feeling right now about things?

urban still to early to tell. I'm more concerned about inflation than I am about the credit crisis.I will tell you this we will all be reflecting upon this economic period for years to come. This will definitely go down in the history books.

Just heard from an economist on CNBC that household net with over the past 5 years increased by 16.5 trillion dollars and only 15% came from housing. Not sure if it makes most people feel any better today but just something to take into consideration.

inflation will surge starting in July. Fed wont hike as early as people think. Oil will fall, stocks will bounce, and then people will realize that slowdown is still lingering. Volatility. I covered my shorts, getting long as of yesterday for bounce. Mark me down for that.

VVerain - I don't like idiots who think they're successful in life because they're smart. I'd rather they admit they've been lucky. That's why spunky gets on my nerves and why I keep reminding him that in the few months when he's "purchased and held" C and MER, he's lost some, while I chose a period of a few days and made as much money on those 2 stocks as the average person can expect to make in a year of good investment.

I'm worth about half a petrfitz, and I've made that from scratch over 6 years (through a combination of smarts and luck, admittedly, I couldn't tell you how much of each).

"inflation will surge starting in July. Fed wont hike as early as people think"

true and true. but talking about economics and markets in this forum is useless as we've seen in the past. save that kind of talk for your blog and other economics blogs. and spunky, don't even go to the gold argument. it's sitting at $900 today which is near its historic highs of $1000, and once the stupid gov't "re-calibrates" its inflation figures in July, guess what will happen.

but wait, spunky, even you said "I'm more concerned about inflation than I am about the credit crisis". if you're concerned about inflation, guess what a good hedge against inflation is?

MMAfia If I were to invest in a metal I'd rather do it with Palladium or Platinum rather than gold. They are both used in the same way gold is but they have other benefits in the industrial area that gold doesn't offer. Platinum is shorter in supply, more difficult to get at, and I like the growing anti pollutant features that Platinum offers (ie catalytic converters).

urbandigs - too early to cover short position. Dow will retest its March lows again. Oil bubble hasn't burst yet. We will see $150 by summer. Long Ag/Commodities/Brazil, short Financials.

Fed is caught between fighting inflation and staving off recession. We might enter into a "stagflationary" mode like Japan did in the 90s.

manhattan guy - been shorting since SEPT. Ive been in and out of SKF, FXP, EEV, SRS, etc many many times. Bear market rallies are sharp, furious, and mysterious. We are down 8% or so in past 3-4 weeks. I dont expect to hit exact tops or bottoms, but the play is to short the rallies and cover on selloffs as vix rises. I would have loved if we hit 28 on vix, but that will have to wait.

I am starting to get long at these levels a bit now for a bounce. I'll short the rally when it comes. If it doesnt come, Ill have my stop losses on my small long positions. Nothing goes in straight line and in volatile bear markets, like this, a rally could come very fast and shorts will scramble to cover. There will be another opp to short at better levels for the next downturn, which I think will certainly come over the next 6-12 months. For now, profits need to be taken for me.

urbandigs - I agree with the spurious Bear Market rallies. But market is heading down in the short term (started a few days ago). No need to catch the tops or bottoms. But your timing might by out of sync here. I agree with DUG. But oil rally is not over yet, not until FED raises rate. When that happens, you want to get in DUG and buy USD.

agreed...yea, in hindsight I would have loved to cover shorts two days later, but whats done is done. Anyway, when I open a position it is with minimal shares. As stock falls, I buy more to complete the position. Im sure you trade similarly, and sell in pieces as well as it goes your way.

But you are right, market is getting close to lows here and that could mean some heavy selling pressure.
