The lease was for one year. I spoke to her and told her that we could not afford it. So she let us break the lease.
Right after the discussion ended, I asked about the security deposit and she said it won't be a problem as long as the apartment is fine.
Our assumption is that she spent it. All that being said, a week after we signed the lease, she told that we need to resign it because our signatures didn't match our signatures on our IDs. We never did because she never followed up. So we NEVER got any copies of the lease.
Everything was through HER. No agent or lawyers involved. No lease was notarized. Again we never got a copy of the lease in our hands.
Another thing was that we never even got a smoke alarm, we have proof of that.
In conclusion, I have pictures of the place after we left with everything intact aside from TWO painted spots.
