Discussion about
From the renovation above there was just damage to my apartment. They came in through my ceiling, in a whole about 8 inches diameter. There was a lot of sheetrock, etc, and it had to be cleaned up. Also, I had to come home early to let people in to assess damage and now need to be present in my apartment to supervise the repair. The owner does not really care, but is going to pay to fix the damage. Am I entitled to anything else, such as compensation for my time, besides him fixing the damage? Has anyone been in a situation like this before?

Get it fixed and move on. You won't be compensated for your time and aggravation unless you go to small claims court where you will probably lose.

it sucks they made a hole but it happens.....

Make sure they paint the entire ceiling of the room with two coats so that it doesn't look like just an area was patched, and make sure they use whole room drop cloths (that way you don't need to move furniture etc).

Also take photos before in case any further damages from ladders etc occur.

But no you wont really get personal time compensation.....consider it good karma :)

It could be worse. I had a neighbor who came home to find half of her bathroom ceiling gone from the renovation to the bathroom upstairs. The were planning to put in a Jacuzzi tub and decided it was going to be too high. So they decided to channel out the floor. To boot, the "renovators" felt the solution was for the ceiling to be lowered in the apartment below to accommodate their tub. I was on the board and we had to deny their contractor to the access to the building until this was resolved. We banned Jacuzzis being installed and tightened upon procedures for board approval and monitoring of renovations.
