Discussion about
Terrible building with a terrible landlord. Stay away if possible. The rents are somewhat lower than market, but it is negated by the unhelpful staff and the blood-sucking landlady. It's a shame - her husband (who passed away a couple of years ago) was actually a very nice man and actually cared for the building and tenants.

I lived there for about 8 years. Started with the now dead husband. Let's not overstate how amazing he was - when I asked him about mice in the building he told me he had them in his apartment, so what's the big deal? Ok - the price was great, so it wasn't a big deal. I got some cats. Problem Solved.
Then it was about the dishwasher not working great. His answer? "What? Just use paper plates, like me"
Ok - no problem, I installed my own dishwasher...
Bottom line, several years ago the price was great for an amazing two bedroom overlooking CPW basically. Gas went out for two weeks or so...sucked...but you know what stayed? The price of the apartment.
When my wife and I were there the prices were right. Elevator broke down from time to time...we walked or asked Brian (the best!) to take us down in the freight elevator. So here's the bottom-line (assuming they haven't gotten ridicously greedy)......get over it. The prewar details are great. The guys that work the building are super nice and helpful (having grown up on the UWS I know...they are not to be overlooked) -- but it sounds like C's wife has gotten worse. But here's the deal - Mr Colton (said "very nice man") was not very nice...but you made a deal with him when you moved in. Nice space, great price, but don't question him. Deal done.
Having been there for 8 years, with Colton, his wife, and his brother in-law (Gibber) I have some insight.
So I would say this: "Understand that the building will likely be sold in the next couple years, assuming the two sisters can come to terms...if they cant't...enjoy the low prices." (oh wait - Pyotr123 didn't know about the two sisters? You should if you post about the place...otherwise you're just some jackass who had a brief bad experience....go push your weight on yelp in that case.)
enjoy

Yeah, I was researching that building and it looks like it has quite a few problems. Particularly, issues with Mold, Utilities, and the Elevator seem prevalent. I'm going to keep looking though I did like it okay.
