Discussion about
FSBO Brokers - realdirect, hauseit etc are making an impact on the real estate broker stranglehold. Helping sellers and buyers save tens of thousands of dollars in commissions. It was inevitable.

It's great that companies are finally starting to think outside the box and provide more tailored options to buyers and sellers. We hired Dan at Digs Realty to sell our apartment. We didn't want to go the FSBO route because we just didn't have the time, but we also didn't want to pay someone 3% to be our seller broker. That amount just doesn't seem rational to me. Dan charged us 1.5% on his side, saving us a ton of money on the commission. No doubt he did just as good a job as a broker charging a full 3% commission would have done. Now we're working with him to find a new place (hopefully quickly since we're crashing at my inlaws), and he's going to save us money again by giving us a rebate of 2% of our purchase price at closing. I just don't understand why more people aren't utilizing more brokers like this, who offer great service and save you tons of money. How come it hasn't really caught on yet?

stza...good question. i guess just like any thing else people don't pay attention unless it's staring them in the face. However once people are bombarded by others then they see the value it spreads like wildfire. It's inevitable.

There are alternatives available in NYC, you just have to look. We celebrated 8 years this past June. That said there are plenty of buyer's/sellers that prefer a more traditional approach. What I and other's have been trying to say is there is a choice. In my case it is a simple utilization of technology (that is free). I run TBG from a Chromebook, Google 6P smart phone (on project fi, which is excellent by the way!!) in the Google cloud. This equals very low overhead which allows us to offer a full service experience and add value back to our clients. I've been on Streeteasy a long time, comments here helped me shape my company and I am very grateful to to the posters and SE itself. StreetEasy opened up the door and deserve a lot of credit for reshaping the landscape.
