Discussion about
After much research, etc., it was decided that Green Glue sound proofing was the solution for use on a bedroom wall. The sub contractor on his own decided to use Sika Pro Select 'Construction Adhesive'. There is absolutely no difference in the noise. I want him to redo it with the product that recommended and that I chose and paid extra for. He said results would be the same with either product. How can a construction adhesive and a acoustical glue have the same qualities? The product he chose was 1/2 the price, that seems to be the difference. Does anyone have any experience with either product?

Apt55,

Sika is a very good manufacturer but I would call them to see if this adhesive is a sound proofing material. What was this adhesive used for? Did you install QuietRock?

It really doesn't matte either way because if the contractor charged you to install one product and used another it is just the wrong thing to do and he should redo it using what was agreed upon

I don't know about Sika but if it functions like green glue, it will take up to 30 days to cure. You may not see an effect until then. You may also have other acoustical issues like flanking noise going on. That said I'd insist on a redo for the agreed upon materials and construction - that's unprofessional.

I looked it up and sika is a sealant. It has none of the visco elastic properties of GG, which never really dries and is the whole point in creating a sound attenuation solution when properly implented. Get it redone.
