Discussion about
Looking for rental with partner. Partner's credit score is 700+ but mine is around 650 (no derogatory marks). Any experience with how landlords may treat a joint application with one weak and one strong credit score? Both incomes good.

Do you know why your credit score is low? Sometimes it could be raised by paying down one of your credit cards. In some cases the money required could be very little.

If it otherwise works for you, your best bet may be to rent from an accidental landlord (a condo or co-op unit), instead of a big all-rental building. When I was an agent I found accidental landlords trusted their gut about renting--if they liked the people, they didn't care so much about credit score, and they all seemed to think they were good judges of people.

What neighborhood are you planning on renting in?
