Discussion about
Is it common to find knob & tube electrical wiring in co-ops built in the 80's? When to see an apt and noticed they have that even though the apartment did some remodeling. How safe is that compared to circuit box? Thanks

The 1880s?

It's probably ok until it gets damaged; at that point you start to see why you are not allowed to use it anymore. For decades, actually. (As you may know, NYC codes do not even allow Romex-style plastic-sheathed power wiring; everything must be in a grounded metallic conduit.)

I seriously doubt that you are seeing knob and tube wiring, certainly not anything that was built in last 90 years or renovated in a permitted manner. Are you equating a fuse box to knob and tube wiring?
