Discussion about
I'm exploring the potential to do a knockthrough renovation between floors. Would an NYC coop normally allow this? Is it possible in a typical post-war building? Who would I hire to do a serious evaluation...are there specialized architects or is this something any architect can do?

It can be done, though not all buildings are enthusiastic about it (or even permit it). It is expensive, and if you're putting in a real staircase (vs some cheap spiral thing) it consumes a lot of floor space. For the money, it may be better to find a similar sized unit all on one floor.
