Con Ed turned off our gas 1/4/2016 and we have been unable to cook since then (both on stove and oven). We haven't gotten anything off our rent or any money back yet. We don't even know when the gas is being turned back on. Hopefully this year...? Agree with prior poster that this building is pretty shoddy and management is poor. Will not be renewing my lease here. If I want to spend thousands of dollars per month in rent, I'll need a functioning kitchen.

I also live here and posted about the lack of gas since the beginning of the year in a different thread: http://streeteasy.com/talk/discussion/40875-madison-park-tower

This building is just ridiculous... I reiterate the above. Don't live here.

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience experienced by our residents during the gas outage and we are delighted that Con Edison has now fully restored service. The shutoff in January stemmed from work that was performed two years ago.

When Con Edison came to the building on Jan. 4 to install a gas meter in the commercial space, they discovered that the building’s main gas feed was presumably turned off two years prior by a private plumber. Since Con Edison is the only party authorized to turn off the main feed, the line was shut down as a precautionary safety measure. By midnight that same night, heat and hot water was restored; however, cooking gas is not considered a priority by Con Edison or the Department of Buildings, which is why it took much longer to restore.

To compensate our residents for the inconvenience they incurred during this time, building management has communicated directly with each tenant regarding the rent reduction they will receive.

With regard to the other maintenance issues raised in these reviews, all issues were addressed upon notifying management. The building employs a full-time superintendent and handyman and residents are reminded to alert management of any issues so that we may arrange to have them addressed promptly.

This response is misleading and suggests that management/owners reached out individually to each apartment for a rent reduction. Not true. After the gas was turned back on, almost THREE MONTHS LATER, we got a notice that said the owners would give us a measly 15% rent reduction of the next ONE MONTH'S rent. When you do the math for a 2 bedroom apartment i comes out to approximately $11 day. Just $11. We lost the ability to cook all of our meals on the stove and oven, host family, heat up baby food, etc. And that is all the owners came up with as a rent credit.

As of now, much of the building is withholding April rent until the owners come up with a more fair reimbursement figure.

For the record, although a lot of maintenance issues do come up, the building staff and the super are fantastic. Very responsive and always willing to come help you. I have no complaints for them, just the owners and management company

Just to clarify, the rent credit comes out to $11 per day for the 79 days that the gas had been gone. Ridiculous.

Management is terrible $11 credit per unit, not per person for 79 days without gas. Unreal, they are the worst.

This is a horribly managed building. Apart from the gas disaster, which has been more than ridiculous, maintenance has always been a problem since moving in. Definitely will not be renewing my lease.

how much do you guys want? $11 per day seems low i agree. but that's about 5% off your bill. i doubt you are going to get more than 10%

The building has been very poorly managed. We were without gas for 3 months, compensation was measly and the management were very rude and difficult to deal with. We were provided with information and updates few and far between, stories changed, things didn't seem to get sorted until the tenants filed complaints with the Department of Buildings who had to come and complete and inspection too.
The management were also very hard to contact at times, especially when they advised of the rent reduction. They refused to let us move out early/break our lease however advised we could sub-let the apartment. How are you supposed to sub-let an apartment without cooking gas?!
The hot plate they provided us with was terrible as well, could barely heat anything let alone cook!
This was the worst occurrence within the building but there was also an instance where the water was turned off without notice and then when it came back on, it had sediment in it and was grey/black. The building was advised AFTER the work had been completed instead of prior to completing the work required.
When contacting management about this matter they advised that they were performing repairs to the heater lines on the roof level and they needed to shut off the water during the repairs due to an issue. Management advised that no notice was provided to the building since they did not anticipate water service to the residents to be affected. Not sure how turning off water wouldn't affect the residents. At the very least, at the point when they realized water needed to be turned off, they should have alerted residents via email/flyers in the building.
The building is very poorly managed and management are not pleasant to deal with.
This building is definitely not worth the money you pay for the apartment!
