Discussion about
If a staff member who lives in the building ie super is required to check on an issue sporadically during a weekend ie every 4 hours - how do you account for overtime ie if they have to check 4 times during a 16 hour window - would they get 16 hours of OT or just the actual amount of work that was done ie checking, etc during the 4 visits?
This is for the building super? If this is a personal apartment issue, I'd say $50 to $100 for the weekend depending on what neighborhood this is in, the size and quality of the apartment and building, and the nature of the problem needing attention. Overtime - no.
Also, depends how long you've lived in the building and regularly and appropriately tip your super at end of year.
This was a BUILDING issue not an apartment issue - super lives in the building but goes away most weekends and was called home on saturday to monitor a boiler situation until plumbers arrived the next day......responsibility was to check boiler every 4 hours for 16 hours - so what would be appropriate OT in this situation ie just the time to check the boiler or the entire 16 hours eventhough the majority of that time was spent in his apartment?
I take it the super is usually off the clock on weekend so his going away is something he's doing on his own time, just like most people don't clock in on the weekends. So it isn't a matter of this only taking a few minutes every 4 hours. He had to complete change his weekend plans, come back to the building, and stay there. You have to pay him a lot. How would you feel if you went away for the weekend and then had to go back to work/
Building issue: Zero extra pay. He's the Superintendent, the building should be in top working order at all times. Comes with the job. And with the full time apartment.
If it's a co-op, does the Board budget for and pay any bonuses to staff at the end of the year? If so, then the Board should explicitly link the bonus to situations such as this.
eastside, if he had to come to the building and stay there and instead of his home, you have to pay him at least 8 hours if not 16 hours. If he lives in the building or close by, perhaps less. In many cases, such emergencies are included in super's duties without overtime payment. You should check on that.
