Tipping workers?

Discussion about
My first renovation and I'm wondering how much is customary to tip the workers. I'm guessing the contractor is just flat rate, but I've been watching his workers coming on time, sweating away in this kitchen with no AC, doing good work, and with a great attitude. What is the customary tip? (BTW, I tried to tip the resident manager when we started, as per advice on this board. He sent back the envelope of cash with a note saying he only accepted tips at the holidays.)

Nothing like $200 per person cash/check assuming they were each working for a month or so. In addition, nice lunch ($25 per person level). Do it a few days before they finish so that they tie all the loose ends. If they worked for much longer, bit more. It is not expected by workers from what I understand.

I don't see the need to tip since you are already paying for the renovations! I would offer lunch as often as possible, but no tips.
