Discussion about
I have an ugly full size metal door in my kitchen that leads onto my fire escape that I will be replacing. Does anyone know if the new door must be Fire Rated? I am told that the small amount of glass I would like to have in the door negates its' fire rating, but nobody seems to know if having a fireproof door there is even a requirement. (Including my Management Company) I live in a small-ish coop on the UWS. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Believe you need is a steel door with what they call a "Light". They are commonly available.

can you ask the people at your local firehouse? They might have experience with the spirit and not just the letter of such a rule, and be able to tell you about the pros and cons of different replacements.
If it is a "Required Means of Egress" then it probably needs to be fire-rated.
thank you all!
