Discussion about
I'm looking forward to the convenience of having a TJ near where I live, but I suppose like most things it will be a mixed blessing. Maybe the West 90s will become more desirable and upscale as a place to live, but I worry the streets will become noiser and dirtier (esp 93rd St) as a result of more people from Upper Manhattan and the Bronx getting off the subway at 96th at the 93rd entrance and walking to the store. Any people out there who have experienced the opening of a Trader Joe's in their neighborhood who have experiences to share?
How many years have you been in New York?
The increased foot traffic will be nothing compared to the blocked traffic and noise from the trucks unloading all the TJ's supplies. (and hauling away the trash). Traffic gets quite snarled at the one on 14th near 3rd Ave.
With Whole Foods beginning to show signs of cracking, and Fairway already cracked, I wonder what is going to happen to the many neighborhoods/buildings that were marketed based on their proximity to desirable supermarkets that may not have long term staying power.
There is enormous excitement around this TJ coming to the area, including from me. Hopefully it lives up to the hype. nyc_sport, what news am I not aware of that indicates WFM is cracking?
I had some of that Whole Foods water with an asparagus spear in it. Mmmm, nutritious
I hope this new TJ is not as out of control as the one in Union Square. It's truly a horrible experience shopping there, second to none!
Some reasonable amount of noise is totally worth it for having the convenience of a new Trader Joes in the neighborhood!
