Do not rent from this landlord. He is dishonest. Apartment 2K and building is in horrible condition, look it up on rentlogic or see all the violations on the Department of Housing Preservation site. Many apartments in the back portion of the building have bed bugs. A few days after we moved in, an exterminator came to the door to treat our place. Imagine our shock. The bathroom ceiling has a recurring leak. The elevator frequently breaks down. A tenant got stuck inside for an hour, so during our last month there, I carried groceries and a stroller up and down the stairs. There are some very nice tenants but there are also a lot of very inconsiderate and even dangerous people. I called 911 multiple times because of domestic abuse next door and upstairs, as well as fights in the hallway and stairs. The man next door who seems nice, screams expletives day and night. The people downstairs play the electric bass, and the guy upstairs (lives with his mom) has parties. And the apartment faces Lincoln Place, not Eastern Parkway, and that is a whole other circus right outside your window. In my 20 years of renting in NYC, and my husband's 15 years, we have never experienced anything so awful, and we have never had a landlord try to withhold a portion of our security deposit. He claims we "severely" damaged a wall and sent us a photo of a 5-inch scuff from the movers. And he says we left holes in the kitchen wall, but my husband spackled them. He has a photo of the wall and no holes are visible. We just wanted to leave peacefully, but now that he isn't giving us our full deposit back, I am happy to warn others.
