Subtenant, no lease - Deposit as last months rent

I have been renting a room on a month to month basis from a couple who are on the lease. A short time ago, they informed me that they would be moving out by August 1st (just over 1 month away) and I would have to move out by then too. I paid first months rent and deposit when I arrived and have not signed any contract/lease. What are peoples opinions on me using this deposit as my last months rent? I only plan on staying in the country for maybe two more months so this move is extremely inconvenient and costly already. Thanks for any advice.

Protect yourself. Be smart. It's not allowed but if you are otherwise upstanding and leaving the apartment in good shape, ask for forgiveness instead of permission.
