Discussion about
Hi Guys, Lets assume that I am open to rent anywhere in manhattan and I am looking for public school for my little one. Where do you recommend me to rent and why. I am open in terms of rental market - 4 - 7 K for a 2 bedroom rental. The important thing is for local public school where she is guaranteed to get in.

there are way better boards to ask this question. Can't say I can send you to them as I have no children, but this is a fiercely covered topic. Hopefully someone else or google can send you to the right place.

PS 6 and 158 on the UES are both good, as is 290 (?) in the same area. You should visit to make sure that you will get a spot.

In that rent range, UES offers the best options. Village/Tribeca rent may be a bit more. PS41 is very good as is PS 234.

Certain buildings in Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village are zoned for PS40.

PS 6 is generally regarded as the best public elementary school in New York City (although there are other good ones as well). PS 87 on the Upper West Side is also very well-regarded, and your rent will be cheaper in that area.

@nyc_sport thanks for your time. I tried many places. Since its mostly related to renting or potentially buying I thought this is a good place.

Thanks @realestate19 @UES_Ida if we have a choice between PS6 or PS87 what would be your recommendation. I live in 13 and 7th and just zoned out of PS41. So its painful and need to make a decision. I am open to location with decent school as private is not an option for now.

What school are you zoned for? Is it the new one located in the Foundling Hospital or PS3? I hear good things about both. You have to consider what you mean by a "good" school. Many of have high academic standards but I would also want one that offers lots of opportunity for enrichment programs as well. PS6 seems a little uptight to me!

Is there a specific forum or website that tracks school districts, ranks etc.?

I'm pretty sure you are zoned for PS340, a new school that has great facilities. I've heard great things about it. The only concern is since it's so new and does not have a graduating class yet, there's no telling how much the top middle schools like it. But if you're only staying two years here, it's an excellent choice.
