At the closing of my co-op, management told me that everybody in the buiding (13 units) would be having their sprinklers replaced in the coming months at a fee that would be passed on to each shareholder accordingly. At the closing of my co-op, management told me that everybody in the buiding (13 units) would be having their sprinklers replaced in the coming months at a fee that would be passed on to each shareholder accordingly. I had no issues with this as the sprinkler pipes are gunked with layers and layers of paint, etc. I actually welcomed it. When it came time for my unit, the plumbers left the old pipes and basically attached more pipes that jutted out every which way. They were slated to do 3 days of work and were only there for 2.5 hours. My loft looks like a boiler room now and I paid the same amount as if they took their time and actually replaced the piping. I complained to management and asked for a detailed invoice of the work, which they have yet to produce, even though I've asked 5x. They simply ignore me. I had my architect see if any permits were filed for this work, and they were not. Is there anything I can do about this? I already paid $1500 for this shoddy job and now have to spend an additional $3500 to fix what they did. [less]
Oh man, did you realize what buying a co-op would entail ... ? You realize that the rules and regulations for a co-op (https://www.hauseit.com/co-op-rules-and-regulation-in-nyc/) are pretty much whatever your board dictates right?
You basically have no right to even ask them for an invoice ... as a tenant it's none of your concern!!
Really too bad, but it's one of the things that frankly scare me to death about ever living in a coop.
