Discussion about
Good morning - recently I had two adjacent units combined. I am paying two bills from Con Ed since I have two separate electric panels in units A and B. This also means I pay two basic service/delivery charges. Con Ed says that in order to pay one bill, they need to send someone over. For anyone with such experience, is this a big job? And if so, it is worth it in the long run? Thanks.

Presumably both panels need to be fed from one meter to just get one bill.

Usually the meters are grouped together in the basement. Wouldn't be rocket science to modify the feeds. Whether it's worth it in the long run, do the math -- if the basic charges are $25/mo, and an electrician will charge you $500 for the work, it's worth it as long as you're there for more than 1 year and 8 months.

By the way, this suggests to me that you have not legally combined the properties and that you are getting two separate property tax bills from the NYC Dept of Finance correct?

This may present some issues when selling just FYI ... just google nyc real estate taxes and you'll see

Thanks a bunch. You are right. The DOB inspections are all done, etc. But it's not "legally combined" with the management company yet.

Should I do it now, or can I afford to wait a few years (until the time I sell)? Thank you again!
