Replace Appliances?

Hi, everyone. I live in a rent-stabilized apartment in Manhattan. It’s just a little studio, but I know I’m extremely lucky. One drawback, though, is that the refrigerator and stove in my apartment are incredibly old. I wouldn't replace on your own. Many years ago there was a story in the Times about a r/s Murray Hill couple that replaced their (gas as I recall) stove and the owner was able to evict them over this. I suppose you could replace the refridg and put the old one in storage in case it becomes a problem. If either appliance does not work you can lodge a complaint with the city.
