Discussion about
Researching the area near the Church Ave 2/5. Yes, Crown Heights but closer to Prospect Park. Here's a listing in the area -- http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/217459-condo-260-linden-blvd-prospect-lefferts-gardens-brooklyn We've been out there a few times, need to do nighttime. Any first-hand opinions on the area?
Do you carry a gun?
@newaccount - are you serious? do you live / work / visit that neighborhood often?
There's a reason it's as cheap as it is. Even if the walls were painted with gold and the appliances were sterling silver, it would still be cheap... know what I mean? But, you [pretty much] get what you pay for. I have some friends who would rather live in a big apt in a crappy 'hood, whereas I'd rather live in a small apt in decent spot.
Here's the idea people are sharing with us -- The area closest to Prospect Park Lefferts Garden seems to in a good location to "come up" (though in this economy who knows)
Tandare, I'd say that you should spend as much time as possible out there 'on the ground' at all different times. Talk to as many people as you can. Commute back & forth to your work. In the end, it will be your 'hood so you need to decide if this is the area where you want to live. Good luck - & let us know what you find!
thanks drdrd -- so far we've found that very generally speaking, closer to the park is 'better'. Further east just feels more remote. I'll update the board
tandare, I've been out in that area only once at night (on Hawthorne, closer to the Parkside stop). It's certainly a busy area, and you HAVE to keep your eyes up, etc., but you could do far worse from the admittedly little I know here. I agree that closer to the park is better, but as someone suggested, I would test it out several times to gauge your comfort level.
There are worse areas in Crown Heights and in Brooklyn, that location isn't THAT bad. Now having said that , I wouldn't live there as there are many locations that are both safer and closer to where I work.
