I have to say though, I really do love this space!

I love it, too. Such an old-school NY vibe. Should be a museum to a wonderful past era of Manhattan living.

Yes I can remember a time when something like that would be relatively cheap to live in!

This is the sort of place that would be just fine with little more than a sensitive updating, rather than a radical to-the-walls full gut reno, either as a single or multi-family. For the right person and architect, a chance to have a unique with lots of character (in a good way). I wish I were in the market for a building -- it looks like it could be a great project.
