Discussion about 814 Amsterdam Avenue in Upper West Side
This apartment is so horrible in so many different ways. 1. Humidity and Temp control - when it gets cold in the winter, if you turn on the heater, it will literally make you choke from the dryness. I had to wake up several times in the night because it was so dry. 2. Worst Management Company. - They will NEVER reply back to your email or calls. I had to wake up several times in the night because it was so dry. 2. Worst Management Company. - They will NEVER reply back to your email or calls. They will only contact you when you are needed, not when you need them. Staffs are super rude, it makes you feel uncomfortable. 3. Yellow Water - I don't know how they built the building, but the water is yellow. You will notice it when you turn the water on in the bath tub. I called the super up to notify that the water is yellow. But the super said "it's what New York's water is like" it's just dirty. RUN AWAY. DO NOT PAY THAT AMOUNT TO LIVE IN THIS HORRIBLE BUILDING. Do you still live there ? ? ?
I never heard of any landlord controlling humidity in winter time. Most people just get a humidifier.
RENTERS BEWARE: DO NOT RENT HERE..ESPECIALLY TOP FLOOR (15TH FLOOR)
I just moved out of 15 O -- its been a nightmare dealing with the management. First, if you're on the top floor, you will get an HVAC system that does NOT work--meaning, you will NOT be able to manually change your OWN temperature. We inquired many times regarding the HVAC system, but never got a solid response. If you're on the top floor and want to change your temperature from hot to cold, or cold to hot--you're out of luck.
ALSO, during heavy rainstorms, this particular floor will experience severe water leaks from the ceiling, and the management will not do anything about it. I've been living with a damaged ceiling for over a year, which is unsafe.
Second, Flatiron Real Estate Advisors ("property management"), along with 812 Amsterdam LLC ("landord") are also liars/scammers--expect your rent to exponentially increase every year if you decide to stay in this apartment. They raised my rent from $2600 to $3250 to $4000 (Legally, they were supposed to give me 60 day notice of renewal, but didn't--I emailed them first about it). TWO weeks before my lease expiration, Rosemary (worst property manager) called me saying they'd like to give "special discount for current tenants by providing 1 month free" while charging brokers fee for new tenants via StreetEasy. Not only did I immediately realize that they NEVER charged brokers fee for new tenants, but they also gave this "special discount" to new tenants. Rosemary acted as if she was giving me a favor which is very laughable.
*Sidenote about Rosemary: She will literally yell at you over the phone. When the other tenant requested a maintenance issue (i.e. to simply fix the door's lock) that was left unsolved, Rosemary yelled at her over the phone which truly shows lack of professionalism. If you don't like your job, then quit.
By the way, there is no way of electronically paying your bills unless you mail a physical check. You will be penalized with a late fee for this rudimentary method.
Third, this apartment is completely trash. You will randomly see homeless people sleeping in the lobby. If it wasn't for the pandemic and the other tenant I befriended, I would have moved out after my first year. 814 Amsterdam has zero amenities--no pool, no gym, no doorman. My packages have been stolen MULTIPLE times, but the management did not do anything. We had to file a police report ourselves which was pretty ridiculous. Also, you can only take the left elevator to go to 15th floor, but this elevator always stinks and often breaks.
Fourth, this management will trash EVERYTHING that you leave on your front door because of "fire hazard." My doormat that my grandmother, who recently passed away, bought for me was simply thrown out. Management should really focus on answering tenants' maintenance requests, tenants' complaints about broken HVAC system, fixing building's MANY issues, but this incompetent management focuses on problems that are so trivial and charges for everything--when a plumber comes to fix your toilet, expect to pay an additional fee on top of your hefty rent.
BY THE WAY, this lousy management will expect you to deep-clean your apartment when moving out; so expect to spend extra $ on hiring a professional cleaning service.
DO NOT MOVE HERE.
tldr; So much for a "luxury" apartment--without a working HVAC system, managed by the worst management, consists with zero amenities
