I actually agree with (1) and will definitely work on it. (2) is also a valid point, obviously apart from the fact that I'd likely lose elsewhere what I gain on taxes. But even putting that aside, with the limit on the mortgage deduction of $1MM, combined with various limits on deductions we face because we make too much, the impact of the mortgage on our taxes would be relatively small, nowhere near enough to get me to the rates you describe.

Petrfitz, while I rarely agree with you, this is totally true. "The system favors the owners" makes much more sense to me than "the system favors the rich". I guess it depends not only on what defines rich, but also how you get there.

I guess I just have trouble seeing how Obama's plans will help anything, and can see a few ways they will hurt. My biggest concern is moving away from free trade and towards protectionism, but jacking up tax rates on the "rich" (>250K in NYC is certainly not rich) also won't help anything. And while it would be terrific if we could stop spending on the war, I would prefer that money be used to reduce the deficit/pay down the federal debt, and suspect it will be frittered away into domestic programs of little real benefit.

I'm not a McCain fan, but he strikes me as a lesser of two evils at this point, especially considering that Obama will have a Democratic congress that is as much of a rubber stamp as Bush's republican congress was for him.

In terms of what will happen, I don't think either side should start celebrating just yet...this one will be tight, and again come down to Florida and Ohio (as well as Pennsylvania).

TA thanks for that article link. I find it amazing that the Dems cant grasp that this country (whether they like it or not) is a center right country. Not by much, but by nominating a member of their party essentially from the fringes, they believe they have the winning ticket? Makes no sense to me. It has absolutely nothing to do with skin color. I would love to have a black President. But I would like that black President to be competent, knowledgeable and realistic in his/her approach to the world, something I know Obama is not.
