Did StreetEasy redesign ruin the site for you?

Discussion about
I noticed a design change that occurred maybe a year ago on the computer (not phone) version of the site. The main difference is the split-screen with listings on the left and a map on the right, instead of the way it was before with a list view by default, and a separate map-only view that you could click into. The search basically doesn’t work for me anymore after the design change and I’m... [more]

I don't use this site nearly as much as I used to.

Zillow purchasing ruined SE

But sure, redesign(s) as well

Part of the reason Craigslist still survives to this day is maintaining its "no frills" simplicity that it started with.

Ruined, yes, 100%. I am thrilled that I was able to shop for (and ultimately buy) my apartment on the old design. The change is so much more than a downgrade -- it's that StreetEasy doesn't actually exist anymore, and instead we have this this. RIP StreetEasy.

Same here. Bought my place based on the old design. I can't imagine trying to do that now.

Yeah, I feel like zillow is just going to do away with streeteasy at some point in the inetermediate future. The map switch took away any fun of browsing and there's no discussion link for either individual units or buildings now. Also, buildings lost all of their floorplans overnight, it's a lot more difficult to look up sales history or comparisons, and the "phone-friendly" format just looks terrible on a computer screen. I am sad because there's nothing quite like the old streeteasy to replace the frustrating mess the site has become.

And yet, there are new (sort of clever) ads in the subway touting SE as a place to go for finding places to live. Zillow has had 10 years since the acquisition to kill off SE, yet it remains. That said, Zillow is rethinking their own organization, and maybe looking to merge all the brands under their umbrella?

Zillow might want to kill/absorb SE but SE is still too popular and is serving an important niche.

I really miss the comments sections on specific coops - sometimes it was spammy but reading between the lines you could tell who had an ax to grind and who was simply reporting their experience. SE is less useful without them.
