Thoughts on Trump's real estate future in New York? https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-29/trump-s-cash-stockpile-at-risk-from-450-million-dual-verdicts
He's gonna declare bankruptcy or grift it out of red cap enjoyers via laundering it through some PAC..
Kind of immune to any Trump "we got him" headlines at this point.
How much real RE business has he done in NYC in the last 10-20 years?
Going by Bloomberg’s numbers, he had $3.1B of net worth prior to the recent judgements. Those will use up all the cash, leaving him with $2.5B of assets. If you look at those, $1.5B are in NY and $1B is elsewhere.
While $1.5B is peanuts in the scale of NY RE (i.e., whatever he does won’t much matter in the market), I don’t think he will be able to render the judgement moot by moving the business out of state.
Can't move any assets without court appointed monitor approving. I think he has to sell significant assets to pay the judgment which apparently are carried at zero cost and have debt attached to them, which means he has to liquidate quite a bit to satisfy the judgement in a down market. I think this ruling shrinks Trump's footprint on the New York real estate market.
How much debt do the assets have?
I am guessing he’ll use cash and loans/debt to cover the judgements. Even though most banks won’t be able (or willing) to do it because of the ban on anyone with a NY charter., I’m sure someone will.
