This is kind of sad. If it happened for the reason the article puts forth maybe they should have had a grandfather clause in the revised law that makes it harder to bring apartments up to market rates: https://patch.com/new-york/upper-west-side-nyc/pair-upper-west-side-rental-buildings-sold-64-percent-cut

A lot of this happened due to predatory equity.
