Discussion about
Does anyone know why construction work has stopped. This is a huge project that I hope doesn't go the way of Atlantic Yards. Buyers at the Oro, BellTel, Toren have a strong interest in this development being completed in the next two to three years.
Interesting.... remember this?
"Bank on it, City Point is happening."
LOL, nyc10022. So long as you have a lifetime to wait for it, it may still happen in your lifetime.
I'd venture a guess, Junkman - the economy happened. :)
I said it before, I'll say it again...
"I've just lived in this town to know that just because they say they're building something doesn't mean they will. A lot of folks don't get that because they only know the past few years.
But, for those who knows history, down years - hell, "normal" years - generally mean announced projects are more likely to not happen than happen. Demolition don't mean much. Hell, there was an empty foundation at 60th & lex for YEARS (now bloomberg building). I think folks are going to be shocked when they see how things work outside of boom years."
I love you guys, cleanslate and nyc10022. I'm sure it is just a temporary halt due to a reason that has nothing to do with financing.
The developers who are building this huge development are well capitalized and are going forward. I was just curious why there was a temporary slowdown.
You can bank on it that is is a very short stoppage. (3 to 4 months) If it was another developer, I would agree with you guys but not this group of developers. My guess is that they have new tenants that they got to accommodate and have to draw up new blueprints for DOB.
They have anchor tenants signed (Target) and all things are go. Must be a technical reason.
You guys are great. You both jumped on my butt quick. I'll inquire with Brownstoner and ask them to post a reason for delay. Their sources are very good. If you guys are right, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about City Point.

You seem to be sure quite a bit...
temporary halt coupled with complete redesign

So, half of city point is no longer planned, right?
