Discussion about
Check out this video of Massachusetts liberal Barney Frank, the head of the House financial services committee. If there's any doubt that a democratic congress, with president Obama's help, will declare war on success, this should squelch those doubts. http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/21/video-barney-frank-wants-more-taxes/

rufus, this is not meant to be an insult...but I am seriously worried about you.

Unless the handle name, rufus, is shared by a bunch of people and someone is always posting something anti-NYC and anti-Democrats (for whatever the reason), it doesn't seem healthy for you to be holding so much anger...posting comments at all hours--as though you are going through a manic phase. I am seriously concerned. Please take care.

Common effects of frontal lobe damage include difficulty in understanding one's outside environment. This can cause less compliance with rules, slow learning, planning ahead, lack of drive, and risk-taking behaviors. With these and other such effects the patients appear to be inactive; this is enhanced when the patient is experiencing aphasia or emotional blunting. Along with these differences there are also differences in emotional response. People suffering from frontal lobe damage tend to forget often, they have a great deal of trouble with their concentrating enough to keep something in memory. People with frontal lobe damage tend to think in a concrete manner, they have trouble understanding hidden meanings and have a great deal of trouble changeing their line of thought.

ISI (very well respected economics team) suggested this morning that the top tax bracket could increase to 44% under Obama & a Democratic administration. Right or wrong is for each to decide on their own. However, i think one thing we can all agree on is that this would be disastrous for NYC real estate given how many families fall in the $250k+ range. This negative influence continues to be under-appreciated by most, in my opinion.

mbz, you're correct. i've seen figures ranging from 44 to 50%. Of course, that does NOT include state and city tax. For Obama to insist that 250K is "wealthy" and use that arbitrary figure as the cutting point for wealth redistribution is not only bad policy but also downright disgusting. Apparently, under Obama's plan, the American Dream stops at 250K.

Given how damaging Obama's policies will be to NYC, I am confounded by the strong support he's getting, even from the city's wealthy class. I guess they want to fit in since supporting Obama is the "cool" thing to do.

44%: How does that compare to the rest of the developed world? London, for example?

Yes, Cracker Boy, the city's trendy, faddish wealthy class. First golf, then piercings, then Obama. Who knows what it'll be when Obama is old hat . . . foot fungus? chastity belts? snuff? snuff films?

alanhart, your racist comments reveal the depth of your ignorance. You obviously know nothing about economics.

also, why should the U.S. try to be more like socialist Europe?

Cracker Boy, make your case for national socialism, which is your clear preference.

alanhart, your constant use of a racially derogatory term only makes you look more ignorant. But I guess I can't expect too much from an obama worshipping liberal.

If you're a capitalist, why don't you go get a job?

Cracker Boy, which racist term are you referring to? Do you mean my question to you about your not liking Obama's ancestry?

For the purpose of analyzing the impact on real estate, the comparison to London (or anywhere else) is irrelevant. NYC after-tax income is going to decrease significantly as a result of higher taxes on the "wealthy." Lower bonuses + higher taxes on those bonuses should have anyone owning NYC real estate very fearful.
