http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/26/realestate/26hunt.html?partner=permalink&exprod=permalink The best part is that they had the foresight to skip an apartment in The Aurora because the developer was willing to take lower offers, yet bought a run down coop apartment that sold for 45k less than an identical apartment next door in summer '07. Oh, and the bricks in their load-bearing wall are removable.

the couple were not native new yorkers...latvia and california...maybe they felt manhattan was better than brooklyn.

I actually saw the apt they bought, it was offered as a FSBO. They had an offer at the time but the board didnt like the buyers financials

Its a 5th flr walk up, long and narrow and was nowhere near 1000 sqft, perhaps 700 or 800. There looked to be some problems with the brick wall in the back room. The back room had a sink in it for some reason. I cant remember the price at the time, might have been 650k

I was not impressed with the building overall, as i recall it was a very OLD building. The unit did not have much light and felt like u were living in a hallway
