Discussion about
I never thought I'd be this conflicted! What do you do when your party has let you down in a major way but you don't like what the alternatives are offering either? P.S. Let's please keep this thread civil - we are all entitled to our opinions and I look forward to hearing everyone's. I'd rather hear your opinion on the topic than your opinion on someone else's opinion!
starbucks is giving out free coffee today. hit the polls and get a free cup of joe!
lo888 - I hear you. I'm from the libertarian wing of the GOP, and have been very unhappy with Bush for some time. I'm also no McCain fan, especially given his performance re: the financial crisis and his VP pick. I've gone back and forth between voting for McCain, not voting at all, and even occasionally considered voting for Obama (usually if I have just read something about Volker and Buffett advising him).
Now...let's be real. This is NY, Obama will easily take this state and almost certainly win today. So I voted tactically - for McCain, but not really because I like him, and more because I think the more narrow the win, the more likely Obama governs somewhat to the center, which seems to be how things tend to work out best.
Just mt 2 cents.
Evillager - you have voiced my concerns exactly. The thing that freaks me out is that a vote for McCain is very likely a vote for President Palin given his age and health. That's what keeping me on the fence (even knowing that my vote won't count for anything in NY!!!) The polls are for Obama but what if MCPalin somehow win?!
Should McPalin somehow win, God help us all!
I made a promise early on that I would not complain about who won as long as it wasn't Hillary. I am not complaining, because it could have been MUCH MUCH worse.
OK - I am about to head out. Is it wrong to skip the presidential vote and try to balance things out in Congress?
lo888, write in a vote for Bloomberg. AT least he represents your political views and, he will be a legitimate candidate soon.
Damn - wish I'd realised that was an option...
Just let it go, It's like that line in the movie Platoon. Sgt Elias."We've been kicking other peoples asses for so long, I figured its about time we got ours kicked. Remember, govt has always been an impediment to entrepreneurship, the magic is in figuring out the new rules, adjust, and win. Its like in college hoops when they added the shot clock, the 4 corners didn't work anymore. You adapt, step up and get it done. Focus on what you can do, don't let silly people in gov't get in your way. Forget about political party affiliation. Think about it this way, is there a single person in politics in the United States that you would hire to run your business? Most will say NO. So ignore them. Move on.
Pragmatism is underrated!
