Discussion about
Crain's front cover this week is on how Wall Streeters (with no relevant experience) are trying to get into healthcare jobs now, given they are still hiring. Hiring managers noting they are getting a ton of resumes from ex-bankers. Don't know if they'll be issuing 7 figure bonuses though. No link, crains doesn't publish the regular articles free, but pick it up on a newsstand perhaps...

i doubt they will have much success unless they're willing to work for free to learn the business. Pharma/biotech is very specialised. When I transitioned from finance to healthcare it took many months of networking and a lot of low paying jobs to get traction.

From firsthand experience, I can say there is some truth to this. I would be careful not to lump all these applicants as "ex-bankers." In my department, we've seen resumes from a variety of areas, though none would qualify as straight i-bankers. As for bonuses, this year will actually be good for us, especially compared to last year - go figure.

The healthcare industry does not pay that well, so they can expect less money. And forget about bonuses. They are non-existent.

alpine292, healthcare jobs are so varied that that statement doesn't really hold a lot of water. Some pay quite well and include significant bonuses.

when you say healthcare do you mean the actual rank and file pharma workers or the hospital workers or some such role?

i'll try and reduce the confusion somewhat..

as bjw inferred, its definitely not all investment bankers, its a mix from the total, I'm sure they're include admin folks as well, but Wall Street admins could easily earn $100k (I knew college degree-less admins at bulge bracket who started at $70k)

As for the jobs they are going for, the opening paragraph specifically notes "hospital jobs". As in hospitals are getting these resumes.

Merck just laid off 7,200 workers. You tell me.
