Discussion about
Anybody know if whether the city was planning on pulling out housing subsidies for people in Manhattan? With a budget shortfall, the mayor is looking to find ways to save money. Is this untouchable or is it a reality?

Actually, the plan is to exterminate the poor. You heard it here first.

Housing subsidies? Like the mortgage interest deduction? That would be a good place to start. Or the capital gains exclusion? How about tax abatements on luxury condos?

streakeasy, what subsidies are you referring to? Those that piggyback on private development won't happen because private development doesn't happen in a down economy.

The City just set aside a certain (large) number of NYCHA low-income housing apartments for holders of federally-provided Section 8 portable housing vouchers -- to reduce city subsidies to those projects.

What else?
