Discussion about
How can I find a contractor qualified to do some heavy-duty renovations with a "luxury" feel--new floors, windows, washer/dryer hookup, fancy Kohler bathroom, base boards & crown molding etc. Should I expect to see a website or photos of previous work? Should I expect him/her to meet on site for a free quote? I rent in a condo. The owner had complete gut renovations done, new floors/bathrooms/kitchen. The doormen in the building recommended a contractor who had worked in the building before. I think the work looks nice, but apparently the owner got in to a fight with the contractor & they aren't on good terms, so I'm hesitant to use him.
I always recommend Sheridan & Sugrue 917.549.1530; they combined two apartments for me and it was a great experience. If you go with them, you won't pay the 15% mark-up for a general contractor -- they'll recommend a great electrician, plumber and tiler for your job.
Also, definitely check out the franklin report, franklinreport.com -- they have a ton of reviews for New York City. You should ask for photos of work and even references.
WOW thank you so much, that site looks awesome!
Welcome. :)
