With all of the phallic architecture, street fairs and Applebee's restaurants who has time to work, really?

Not to mention all of the crime. It's really sad to watch the Second City crumble so much. When the Obama's leave it will be catastrophic ....

I hope Chitroit doesn't continue its natural devolution and become an anti-matter hole that sucks the rest of the country to its demise.

Rufie, do you realize that this also shows Chicago is deteriorating much quicker too?

Chicago's unemployment rate increased by a whopping 160 bps over the last year. New York's increased by 60 bps.

Looks like the struggles in the beef and derivatives industries really are killing Chitroit.

Well Chitroit still has pork bellies, and you can't take THAT away from it.

It's a cool but comfortable 49 F in manhattan right now. In Chicago it's SNOWING and 32 F.

Say all you want about Chicago. I say it's COLD.

Shoveling out his driveway or ranting over on Curbed (he's #14)...

"Once again, stories like this show why NYC luxury condos are so inferior to Chicago's. How can you guys have steak restaurants in the same building? LOL! NYC is full of idiots who know nothing about architecture or urban planning. My favorite is the gramercy by starck building, which has a freaking McDonalds in the lobby! Is that NYC's definition of "upscale living?"
NYC is such a joke. The city is in decline, and you guys should get over yourself. The rest of the country is laughing at your pathetic city."

Holy Moly...now to cover his tracks he's taken on multiple personalities...as if there are a whole bunch of Chicagoans who read Curbed?

"Why do so many NYC luxury condos have restaurants, whether it's Palm or McDonalds? It's pretty low class.

I agree with #14. The condos that have recently gone up in Chicago are simply astounding and better than anything I've seen in NYC. Just a few examples are the elysian, trump international, lincoln park 2520."

Poor, poor, demented Rufus.

I think its funny that Chicago has massive unemployment even while it doesn't even have GOOD jobs. Its one thing for folks who want to make $1 mil not being able to find it right now, but when most of their jobs are like hot dog vendors and street fair ride operators, you'd think those jobs would be easier to get.

NYC - but remember, those street fairs in Chicago are BIG events. Hot dog vendors and ride operators in Chicago are the equivalent to doctors, lawyers and invetsment bankers in the rest of the country. They MAKE Chicago better.

NYC's unemployment rate will quickly surpass Chicago, since the financial sector is still bleeding, and there's no signs that it will stop soon.

actually, you keep digging yourself in a hole.

Even with Wall Street bleeding (and has been for almost a year now), Chicago STILL has higher unemployment and STILL sucks.

NYC is having issues, and its lead over Chicago is GROWING.

Sucks to be Chicago.

Good point.

If you sell 5 hot dogs an hour for $10/hr, that is enough to afford "prime" Chicago RE. I think that gets you a lower floor at Trump.

nyc10022, the trump international in Chicago is a better building than the trump buildings in NYC.

We're comparing Trump buildings as a measure of a city's qualities? THAT is definitely a mid-western standard for taste--not NYC.
