Discussion about
Again, I 'm a real estate agent and we just conducted our final walk through on a new construction property yesterday. We are set to close next week and I am at a loss, when it comes to the closing gift! She is a bright, beautiful, blond that works in Midtown East and seems to be well off. What could she ever want or need, in her new 689 SF home?

For my last clients, I stocked their wine refrigerator. Does she drink?

Thanks Ali, I'm not sure if she drinks and she didn't get the premium package that comes with the wine cellar. And I don't even know about wine!

If you don't think she would be offended, you could give a gift certificate to the Peninsula spa. (This may be trickier coming from a male agent, though..)
Any buyers or sellers out there have any thoughts? It's always a debate in our office...

Thanks Tina, the website looks swanky. A cash certificate applicable to any of the services offered may be an option. I am curious to how others would receive such a gift, coming from a real estate agent at closing.

How about a price guarantee, or, since it's new construction, a warranty?

None of the above, this person signed there contract over a year ago and can't re-negotiate her contract, unfortunately. Luckily I got her a great enough deal on the price, at first release. Price guarantee just came out this year (in my market). What kind of warranty? Both of these come from the developer and not from me! I want to give her something special, personal, something intimate? I don't know what to do! She is such a sweet girl!

Flowers. How can you go wrong with flowers? I wonder about the spa idea; some people might think it's inappropriate, too intimate. With winter coming quickly, how about a cashmere scarf? Does she have a signature color?

Flowers? This is the largest purchase of a persons life! For some reason, I was under the impression that the closing gift had to be considerable, memorable and ..well expensive! Any guidance helps.. Thanks SE

Well, then, Greg, send her an effen Ferrari & STOP BOTHERING US! What are you thinking of spending? A mink isn't considered PC these days. How about an American Express Gift Card for a few thou & she can get herself a designer handbag.

lol, are monetary gift cards personal enough? Thanks drdrd for the feedback. What is PC? I was thinking up to $1,500 or so? Again I have no idea and that is why I resulted to SE, where everyone is as warm and inviting as you guys!

Amex gift cards are a lovely gift - just pair it with some flowers (we'll call it the drdrd combo).

Nothing says "thank you for your custom" like a cottage in Watermill.

Wow - my broker just offered to take me out for a drink which I declined since there was not love lost between us. I am thinking of using her to sell the place now so she can screw someone else as badly as she screwed us!

OK, enough nastiness! $1,500 is very generous indeed but I think would look odd in the way of a cash certificate. I think a gift with a gift receipt in case she wants to return it would be more appropriate. If you are looking to make a move, something more personal like a bag, designer silk scarf, etc. would work. If this is purely a professional thank you, something for the home would be more appropriate. What do you get your other clients (who are not as hot?!) How about a case of bubbly?

agree w/ nyc10022, unless you think of something you know she'd like (eg wine for someone who went with the wine cellar), go with the cash gift card. Pair it with a nice arrangement of flowers (not a bouquet, but in a vase), because it's a little less "I want to bang you"

When I bought my apartment the selling agent gave me a gift certificate to Aventura (the glass and ceramics store on Amsterdam) He didn't know that I collect glass--but I realized that store has something for everybody

nice gifts I'm hearing, my last purchase was a vaction home in the country. All I got was some goofy ass mailbox sign with the address on it.

you could always get something ridiculously expensive -- I like the cashmere idea, maybe a throw for the sofa?-- from a major department store, making sure that you check that it's returnable for store credit. Then she can always turn it into something else.

I once got an architect who did me a favor a cashmere sweater from Bergdorf's, and the next time I saw him he thanked me for the watch.
