I saw that tower (from the street) when I was in Chicago this spring. What a looker!

I have never understood the Trump aesthetic. I have always thought it looked incredibly tacky and cheap.

Agreed wishhouse, Trump is totally tacky and totally '80s but there are a lot of people with really horrible taste who think glitz = class because it gets you noticed, for better or for worse. Just look at the interior of cruise ships. Trump is the Paris Hilton of real estate.

We're talking about the guy who brags about pink marble, and gleaming gold railings.

He never left the 80s.

He never left Trump Village in Coney Island (or wherever it is).

His dad built that... its in between Coney and Brighton Beach (closest to Ocean Parkway)

He actually grew up in Jamaica Estates, Queens.

Still, I like to associate The Donald (or "that Queens-born short-fingered vulgarian", as Spy Magazine used to say) with Trump Village anytime I get the chance -- a bleak scarlet letter to tarnish the polyurethaned brass glitz.

trump is a rich kid who inherited, leveraged, and is always one step away from his creditors. he looks rich when times are good, and goes bust when times are bad. he has a reputation as a "business genius"? perhaps in the same quarters where bernard maddow is seen as a pillar of honesty.

I think Trump has done enough harm himself that you don't need to tie him to his dad - who had to bail him out several times - to make fun of him.
