this article makes it so much worse. http://clusterstock.alleyinsider.com/2008/12/16-billion-of-your-tax-dollars-straight-to-bailed-out-bank-execs absolutely appalling, disgusting, the way our system is. I can see why girls turn the other way when you go out and they hear a guy works in finance. used to be 2 years ago, girls wanted to meet guys in finance, now it's become a dreadful dis-respected industry looked down upon by the masses.

LOL. It sounds like goesaround is Poindexter in the IT department, and a wee bit jealous of the success Wall St types have with women!

But the fact remains, financial services still pays higher than most other professions, at least for those who still have jobs.

And the female of our species, in true Darwinian form, has given evidence time and time and time again what she is primarily interested in, in a mate: The ability to provide resources. Other mammals do that, too. Nature intended it this way.

"I want a nice guy. I want a sensitive man" they may say. But do they date nice, sensitive Poindexter in the IT department? Do they sleep with him? Nice Poindexter who texts them 15 times a day and calls 4X a day, who sends flowers and weeps at Alan Alda movies. Zzzzzzzzzz. He puts her feet to sleep.

Or does she sleep with the rogueish, $500K investment banker bad boy?

It's basic Leykis 101.

I can't tell, should I be insulted, annoyed or amused by the fact that you changed mandalay into Vandalay?

oh ok, well, I'm off to work now. we have our first draft documents on our largest deal due tomorrow, and then the second draft on the 29th. Sucks for me to be at Vandalay industries, my boutique Wall Street firm. We don't do mortgages.

FYI, Tom Leykis is originally from NY but moved to LA. He has repeatedly bashed NYC on his show, saying how much more attractive the girls in LA are. Even Leykis admits that NYC is a second-rate city.

Its funny, when I was young, single, had hair, and a trader with Tradescape in 1998, I noticed that around winter of 1999 all the ladies LOVED traders. Not so much stock brokers, but if you were a trader, even a day trader, they ate it up. They all of a sudden 'got interested' and hung around for a while we threw hundys at the bartender and ordered Grey Goose bottles to our private tables. Ahhh the good daze...
yes, I meant daze..

Then, something happened. A few years later no woman wanted anything to do with a trader, especially not a day trader! The tides turned, and we got the cold shoulders. Me & my boy Sean Chritty, as we used to call him! I remember it like it was yesterday. We looked at each other, after years of going out and partying and spending crazy money like stupid kids who thought the party would never end, and said, 'the games over'..this was around early 2001.

It sure was! I got married a year later and now Im balding. Such is life.

Now, now, Rufus. Leave PositiveCarry alone. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with hipster girls OR trashy Jersey chicks. The trashier, the better! Strippers need love, too. And Admiral LOVES him some strippers!

Admiral, it's sad how pathetic the quality of women in NYC is. The weekends are especially atrocious. Compared to L.A. and Chicago, NYC women are horribly unattractive. An above average girl at a bar in lincoln park neighborhood in Chicago, would easily be the hottest girl at most NYC bars.

So rufus, girls find it attractive that you were forced to relocate due to job issues, and now spend all your time on a NYC board trashing NYC?

Rufus: Agree that LA girls are smokin' hot. Miami a close second. Dallas and NYC, tied for third.

Chicago and all other mid-western cities? Bottom of the barrell. Bunch of pasty, corn-fed fatties. Fatties with A-cups. NO THANK YOU!

I'm not the biggest fan of Miami since latina girls are not my cup of tea. But yeah, I agree with LA and Dallas. They blow NYC women away. It's not even close.

Anyone who says NYC girls are the hottest, either have horrible tastes or have not left the city.

goesaround - you must be a chick, right? No guy would put "most intelligent" on his list of criteria for hottest women! I know - let's go chase some of the gender-benders at Smith College! The ones who look like Sasquatch, and smell twice as bad. I hear they are REALLY intelligent.

goesaround is either a girl or a liberal NYC "intellectual" who spends his free time reading Marx and Derrida at the local starbucks.

When it comes to looks, NYC is way behind those cities. That's a fact.

"I'm not the biggest fan of Miami since latina girls are not my cup of tea."

Rufus - hot girls the world over come to South Beach to be aspiring models. Mostly, they end up as strippers or, worse, with ads on craigslist that end in "$200/half; $250 full hour. No greek". But they are NOT all latinas. On the mainland, yes. But on Miami Beach, its the full range of hotties from the U.S., Europe, and South America. I suppose that hot girls from the eastern half of the United States migrate to Miami, and hotties from the Western half of the U.S. to L.A. For whatever reason, the hottest women seem to be in cities that end in "beach" (Miami Beach, Huntington Beach, Manhattan Beach etc). AND, the further you go from the ocean, the less attractive the ladies get! As a rule of thumb, when I lived in Miami, when going on a blind date I added a pound for every mile west of the beach a girl lived!

Admiral, yeah you're right on the beach towns having the hottest women. Add Newport Beach to that list as well.

I was never crazy about Miami for some reason. Maybe I didn't go to the right places.

"But when they are 34, will they make $1.2M?"

How many people stick with it until age 34 to make that kind of cash? A very small percentage. 1% of analysts go on to become Managing Directors.

Not saying that the potential reward isn't much greater, but to act like that's the standard career progression by age 34 is incorrect.

I love how Rufus just ignores statements like, "Chicago and all other mid-western cities? Bottom of the barrell. Bunch of pasty, corn-fed fatties. Fatties with A-cups. NO THANK YOU!" and continues to try to kiss-ass with admiral.

Rufus, if admiral adds a pound for every mile a girl lives from the beach, then the girls in Chicago must be PRETTY DAMN BIG!!!!!

Is he still your buddy?

Cracker Boy says "latina girls are not my cup of tea" . . . that's because THEY'RE GIRLS.

"cup of tea" indeed -- pinky held out like this. Oopa, that's my middle finger. Pinky like this.

But Cracker Boy has made it clear that his minimum requirement for "hot" is cankles, so he likes them Chicago livestock.

Admiral: "Urban, how do you enjoy being married? Do you miss having sex?"

Urbandigs: "I'll take the 5th"

I knew it. If this isn't a reason to avoid signing on the dotted line, I don't know what is. Pre-nup or no, EVERY married man i know of tells me that, one year after saying "I do", he was "relieving himself" more than when he was a teenager. I don't know what it is about American women, but once they have their hooks in you, they go on sex strike. At least with you; who knows what they are doing with that hot guy at work. I think it's a power thing in the relationship.

AgentR - I closed on two deals last month. Got 1 left to close still. Got few new sell side listings coming. Got few new buyer clients. The point? Sales vol is not going to 0, but it is way way down and the market is illiquid. We will see pockets of distress, and pockets of strength because real estate is nutty like that. But in general, the market is illiquid and properties have longer time on market and bids in general are coming in low. This is what makes a downturn. I never said no deals are happening, but many interpret that on their own.

Im glad you are doing deals, keep em coming! But trust me, almost every broker I talk to is reporting a significant slowdown in strong bids received. I got 2 calls alone last week from sellers signed on with different agents now, that cant sell their places even after big reductions.

Lets just all hope that this ILLIQUIDITY doesnt last long because if it does, you will see a much different market by this time next year. Besides, lets see Q1 market report in April, and see if thath reflects OCT-DEC action
