NYTimes Revamped RE Site--Disaster

Discussion about
Have you seen and tried to use the revamped NYTimes RE site? It is completely not user friendly and it is questionable who it was designed for. Rather than the very helpful advanced search tool previously available and the way it worked, it is now almost unworkable. Many options are not available (like chosing multiple property types easily). And by the way, if you had saved properties or alerts there--guess what, not any more!

I've come to the conclusion the site is designed for Realtors.

is it so bad that it makes it not worth putting up an online ad?

It does make it not worth putting an ad on line.

can you explain?
do you mean there are NO FSBO's or no search function for them?

I am a FSBO and was going to list in the Times today.

{{And by the way, if you had saved properties or alerts there--guess what, not any more!}}

Frankly, that's the part that irks me the most. Thanks a lot, guys.

As far as I can see, there are NO fsbo's listed at all. only broker listings.

I did get through to the Times and they are working on their search problems. FSBO ads should be fixed soon, I hope. We all paid our money, why can't we get our ads shown? There are lots of problems on the broker ad searches too. I can't find stuff I used to be able to find.

The main use of the Times site was FSBOs. For non-FSBOs, SE is much better.

Not that I thought the old site was anything great but the new one is worse.

sniper:

Nice apt & nice web site, but I have 2 comments:

Your opening photo: May I suggest you take the photo in the day time, because seems this photo was taken at night & gives me the impression that it's a dark apt.

Also, is the apt is across from Agata? If so, I personally consider that area more Lenox Hill than Yorkville. Maybe add "/Lenox Hill" to "Yorkville"?

Good luck with your open house.

understood on the opening photo. my photography skills aren't as good as the could be and the light (and there is a lot of sunlight) just doesn't come out good in the photo. i can try again.

also, i was always told that it was yorkville. i am on the uptown side of the street. agata is on the south side. maybe 79th is the cutoff line? i will look into it.

thanks for the response

Lots of problems with the new search engine.

They have a glitch where you can't search multiple neighborhoods at a given price at the same time. They allow you to select for this, but when you try the search engine blows up.

I assume they will be able to fix that aspect, but there are other problems. For one thing, the direct link to the broker's listing is now gone. You can go off on your own and call up the broker's web page, but it's much more time consuming.

The pictures of the street where the property is located are odd and I can't tell what purpose it serves. It often does not show the building in question and so seems to have no value.

And I don't understand the pull-down window at all. What is the benefit? It saves you a click, I guess, but it doesn't tell you very much more. I'd rather click and get all the available info at a glance.

Lousy design.

Worst site revamp ever. Forget about checking for new listings--now all the old ones come up and it just can't distinguish. All my saved listings are gone. Absolutely non-functional. Not using it ever again.

sniper,
hope my comments were constructive, didn't mean to criticize. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks very professional & the apt looks good.

Wkipedia says Lenox Hill starts at 77th st. But, having lived in Yorkville & Lenox Hill my whole life, I personally consider 79th to be Lenox Hill. Just saying this cuz I think it sounds stronger to say that the apt borders both areas.
