Swamped by a post-holiday surge of claims from laid-off workers, New York State’s computerized unemployment insurance system shut down briefly Monday afternoon and then again for several hours on Tuesday, according to the state Department of Labor. The system, which serves as the gateway to unemployment benefits for New York residents, could not handle the volume of calls and online inquiries it was receiving, said Leo Rosales, a spokesman for the department. As many as 10,000 people an hour tried to log into the system to file new unemployment claims or to check on existing claims, Mr. Rosales said. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/07/nyregion/07unemployment.html?ref=nyregion 10,000 people an hour. Thank g-d this has no effect on Manhattan real estate. Because according to JuiceMan, the median price per square foot can't fall 50%. Not that anybody ever said it would. [less]
I'd use a german word to explain how I'm feeling right now, but I don't want to gloat.
German, or germain?
Germain? Isn't that a flower?
Gremlins
someone turn off the lights.. I'm trying to sleep.. got a heavy work out session in the a.m.
Yep.... unemployed (walking financially dead people) no effect on NYC RE.. goodnite.
w67thstreet ever notice the guys that are hanging out balls naked when you first walk into the locker room then when you take a couple of bathroom breaks there still there then when you shower sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room they seem to follow you around.....do these guys workout at all or are they wall street guys who got laid off that will save the Manhattan RE market?.....curious minds want to know?
definitely seeing a lot more "hangers" at the equinox. I went mid-day once (and we're not talking a neighborhood with a lot of work crowd, its residents) and I remember thinking... these are folks on sabbatical..
McHale.... ahhhh.. you speak of the "hangers on." Yes my heavy lift guy and I have spoken about this at length. I have no problems with gay people or ladies who go to the gym to wear tight fitting clothes, but the guys that hang out in the locker all day... yes I have a problem with them... WTF... I'm in and out in 45 minutes.. go heavy, go hard and them get some ice cream (gota treat yourself).. these schmos spending 3 hours in the gym are complete losers... but maybe they figure they pay $300/month for Reebok.. .so they gotta get their money's worth.
nyc10022... a couple friends took a flight to dubai... (that's the new I-bank hub didn't you know?) and lots of people are pretending to work really hard at their banks now... it's the funniest thing to know that there is no deal flow but people still stay till 9p.m. WTF... give it up... throw a football around the cubicle farm and wait for the pink slips.
Now that I've read "The Road," the new definition of walking financially dead = if your liquid cannot pay off your current mortgage.
I only pay $200/month, W67th. You're getting ripped off.
nyc10023.. but they said I got a special price... hey wait a minute... she did look like agentrachel... DOH! duped again..
I just applied for unemployment and was shocked that i'll have to pay taxes on the benefits.
julia - I thought you were a small business owner.
Duped. Yep. I'm waiting for the private lockers to come down in price.
I was...I closed my business in florida and just closed the business in manhattan.
