How can of a discount can a renter "earn" by paying a year upfront?

Does anyone have any experience here? How much of a discount will a landlord usually offer in exchange for the entire yearly rent paid upfront?

The big guys don't care. With an individual owner perhaps they may discount you 5-10% for peace of mind or if they need a large junk of cash. In my opinion it is not worth parting with your money, should you have to vacate early good luck getting back what you have paid upfront.

If you have a really bad credit history or no job some owners may insist on this arrangement.
