Discussion about
Hello all, On Saturday, after a hard week at work, I took several friends and my service dog to a Gentleman's club on the west side. Upon entrance, there was a disclaimer that they can turn away any patron at any time for any reason. I was not allowed in with my service dog. Is this legal? How is that not discrimination? It seems as if turning away me due to my service dog is no different than turning away someone because of their race. My service dog is very well behaved, and would have sat obediently on my lap for my duration at said strip club. Thanks for the advice.

I almost thought you were serious until I got to the part about the dog sitting in your lap.

I am serious. Do you know what it is like to have to bring a dog with you into stores? Dealing with ignorant people all day long?

This is no laughing matter.

Please pardon my ignorance and flippancy. I've just never seen a service dog sit in anyone's lap - and I have a fair amount of experience with vision challenges.

A service dog is not necessarily a seeing eye dog. Why would I go to a strip joint if I couldn't see?

kekusact: For a victim of prejudice, you just asked a pretty bigoted question.

Find me a blind man that goes to strip joints and I'll be the first to apologize. Considering the caliber of women at many of these clubs, I'd say that would be some pretty risky business.

interesting post. it leaves me with a lot of questions.

wouldn't the dog keep getting knocked off your lap as attractive women walk by?

how could you not understand why a blind person might enjoy a strip club? smell and TOUCH (when they rub up against you...or that's what I hear :) )

Did you get your service dog from a non-profit organization that trains and certifies the dogs for service purposes, or are you one of the many assholes in NY who don't deserve to own pets and are manipulating ADA rules to do whatever you want (i.e. claiming that the dog is your "emotional companion")?

I like dogs, but New York is plagued with the most irresponsible and selfish dog owners of any place I've ever been. The culture is worst (totally out of control) near Riverside Park and in the West Village.

A lot of the women in the NYC strip clubs are service dogs, what's one more?

I just think they'd be too easily taken advantage of. For instance, the least attractive and/or oldest women would be able to prey upon the seeing-challenged. Friends of the person might purposely find the "freakish" women, as it were, as a practical joke. Pictures could be taken and posted on social networking sites.

i take it you have not been to a lot of strip clubs (maybe because of the dog) but I will pay you money to go any decent strip club and try to take pictures. good luck with that.

"For instance, the least attractive and/or oldest women would be able to prey upon the seeing-challenged. "

Least attractive in what sense? To whom? Different patrons are attracted to different dancers for different reasons. A blind customer would have his/her own tastes too.

As for your apparent belief than older dancers are inherently less attractive, I won't even comment on that one. Enjoy your jailbait.

Hold on a minute: I have a stupid question. Why do you have a service dog if you are not blind?
