Discussion about
Hi, I'm looking to purchase in a coop which requires buyers to purchase a million dollar liability insurance coverage. I've called a few insurance providers and they only offer policies up to $500,000. Does anyone have recommendations for a NYC insurance company that offers up to a million dollars liability coverage? Thanks for your time.

Use an agent to cut thru the b.s. and sift the policies for you. Several companies don't deal with individuals and only work through agents. I've had outstanding experience with Honig Conte in Chelsea--ask for Alessandra.

Thanks for your responses. How much do agents charge?

Insurance brokers pick up their fees from the insurance companies. I have Travelers, through a broker on Long Island.

I too have Travelers policies via an agent. They are kind of like mortgage brokers in that there is not a specific fee. It is built into the overall premium. They are also good at shopping for "package" benefits for you by bundling home/car/umbrella liability policies with one company. With all of life's headaches, I find turning over the insurance searches to someone else a blessing.

Some agents can't get what others can. Travelers isn't available through everyone, for example. A good insurance agent is, as kylewest points out, one person who can make life a bit easier.

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately, the coop screwed us and delayed our closing. So, the insurance issue is not on the table yet. We're just trying to minimize damage at this point.

But, I did find out from a call to Travelers, that they do not offer their 1 million dollar umbrella plan to those that do not have car insurance with them.

Consider if you have personal Umbrella insurance that sits on top of $300k H/O through your company. Naturally, there are cons and pros to this approach.
