Discussion about
I was there last night for a friend's party. OMG! That whole area is so disgusting; it looks like freaking calcutta. Overflowing garbage bags on every street corner, grafitti everywhere, closed stores with iron shutters, etc. The party was mediocre in typical NYC fashion. Lot of hipsters and other assorted ugly people. But what do you expect in NYC? After all, this is not Los Angeles, Dallas, or Miami.

Rufus was clearly under the impression that the Lower East Side was apparently where the blue bloods had their beaux arts limestone mansions and Mrs. Astor would throw the very well known 'Delancy Street Masquerade Ball' we're all so familiar with. It wasn't the center of immigrant life in NYC for like 200 years or anything.

Why bother. This is all a game being played by some bored "hipster" toying with the yuppies of streeteasy. Rufus or Quantum then have a good laugh over a PBR at the Turkey's nest on Bedford.

For the love of God, can we please stop even responding to all these baiting anti-NYC posts? Is it not clear we're just dumping fuel on his fire every time? Rufus, or whatever he chooses to go by, is obviously a HUGE pansy who shivers and cries upon seeing graffiti. Graffiti! Let's not waste anymore time or space on these boards devoting attention to this. Keep ignoring it and he'll eventually go away. End rant.

When I moved permanently back to Manhattan I was very surprised that the city had not changed. Real estate is sooo expensive but the city is still filthy. Quantum is right...we need to stop sugar coating it. Manhattan is a mess but it's an exciting, vibrant city and that makes up for the mess.

Julia, th city visually looks the same as it did in 1992, during the height of the crime wave. It's a shame that the city has not gotten cleaned up, even though real estate prices and taxes have skyrocketed. Meanwhile, Chicago has radically transformed itself and is now one of the most beautiful cities in North America, with the best luxury condos in the country, as well as the #1 skyline.

Take a look at pics of NYC and Chicago from early 90's and compare them to now. Chicago has completely gentrified and gotten cleaned up while NYC looks almost the same.

No, Chicago has gone downhill. New York has been gentrified, and we have better new condos which 100% prove we are a better city. It's a shame Chicago's condos are all so terrible.

If NYC is so gentrified, why does Manhattan have so many housing projects? Can you please answer that question?

Chicago has more housing projects! It's a fact that Chicago is going downhill while NYC continues to be amazing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, quantum, but you just can't argue with facts. It's a shame Chicago is falling.

It's shocking how many new condos New York City has put up lately. The vast majority of wealthy people prefer NYC over Chicago.
The financial meltdown has devastated Chicago. Hundreds of construction projects have been cancelled indefinetly in Chicago.
Wealthy people are leaving Chicago in droves for destinations like Manhattan, Brooklyn and Connecticut.

Chicago's housing projects are all in the far south and west side. Manhattan has housing projects right next to luxury condos! LOL!

NYC is such a rancid third-world shithole.

It's sad how far Chicago has fallen. It's a fact that Manhattan continues to be the most competitive city in terms of architecture, finance, rich people and general awesomeness. It's a shame Chicago has fallen so far.

kingdeka, you're one funny dude! I don't know a single Chicago person who moved to NYC while I know tons of NYC folks who have left the city due to the grim economic conditions that have destroyed the city.

New condos? By "new," I think you mean shoddy conversions of old warehouses and factories. Sorry to bust your bubble dude. But when it comes to real new buildings, Chicago is king.

I went to a party last night in Gold Coast Chicago last night and was disgusted. Crackhead governors were wandering the street trying to shake me down for $2.00 to use the public sidewalk. Gangs had taken over every corner and were flashing gang signs at each other. The police were nowhere to be found. An elderly woman nearly froze to death after being outside for all of 2 minutes. I could barely walk down the street without bumping into obese women. My eyes have yet to recover from looking at all the ugly and overweight people. The accents were so bad, my ears starting bleeding.

And when I finally got to the party, the people were watching the highlights from the 1985 Super Bowl and everyone was debating who the greatest person in the world is, Coach Ditka or Mayor Daley. I was so hungry from the frigid weather, yet was disappointed to find out the only food being served were Polish Sausages, saukerkraut and corn on the cob.

It is a shame how far behind the rest of the world Chicago has fallen.

While NYC has put up the most modern and awesome new condos lately, Chicago has not put up any new construction condos and those that they did were marketed for section 8 vouchers. It is shocking how crappy the condos are that Chicago are trying to sell. LOL

The vast majority of wealthy people and good looking blonde women prefer to live in NYC over Chicago. Ask them. Everyone knows that.

Cracker Boy, it sounds like you're ready for another delivery of the Chicago Gangs maps showing gang activity throughout the northside, and the Chicago Housing Authority map showing low-income housing projects in the northside. Plus the CHA's ambitious plans to build lots more, including on the northside.

Not to mention the out-of-control crime stats for every "prime" neighborhood in that subprime city.

Facts are facts.

There is a certain coolness to the LES that not everyone can access. No everyone got Joey Ramon. It's the haters I can't figure out. What happened? No love from Mommy?...OK haters, we love you...so lighten up!!! every day on this planet is a gift. Not all gifts fit and some of them smell but, it's the thought that counts.

Cracker Boy, you submoron, the area north of Rogers Park is called Evanston. It's an entirely separate city, and a charming crime-free one at that.

I'm talking about the lakefront crime dens from the Loop to Lakeview (where you want to move near to be close to Boys Town, as I recall).

Quantum was at a friend's party on the LES - on Monday night? Cool friends! I was actually at a party in Chicago only just 2 minutes and 10 seconds ago, and everyone was high on meth, and at least 3 people died, and the entire building collapsed, and then the survivors wandered around the city like living-dead zombies, bleeding from open sores, until they either froze to death or ate each other. It's a shame that Chicago can't be as wonderful as other amazing places like El Paso, Walla Walla, and Newark.

Lincoln Park 2520 has now decided to accept section 8 vouchers due to the economic crisis that is destroying Chicago.
Top restaurants in Chicago including the famed charlie trotter's restaurant are also accepting food coupons and WIC vouchers in order to stay in business due to the economic devastation that is destroying Chicago.

It's a shame how hard Chicago has fallen. I heard the director of Slumdog Millionaire is going to film the sequal to Slumgdog Millionaire in Chicago as Mumbai and Chicago are practically the same city.

It's a fact. Chicago has been overrun by mutant alien cockroaches. Also, Chicago used to be nice, but now it resembles Auschwitz, but with worse architecture. I should know. I am at a party there right now, and everyone seems to have moderate to severe acne, and bad hair. Not like beautiful places like Camden, NJ, or Bucharest, Romania. Chicago is falling behind.

There are so many dangerous housing projects in the Gold Coast and streeterville areas of Chicago that it now has a crime rate that rivals New Orleans. Chicago is so dangerous it is shocking. Ugly dark haired pasty skinned women, fat people, bad Midwest accents and crappy housing conditions make Chicago one of the most dangerous and fastest losing population centers in the world.

Chicago has been desperately petitioning Al Fashir, in the Darfur region of Sudan, for Sister City status.

But Al Fashir's City Council has thus far maintained its dignity, and is looking for cities that are a lot more together and important than Chicago.

Chicago smells like dead rats! OMG. LOL. I should know, I am there right now, having dead rat for lunch at Chicago's "finest" restaurant, which is actually the municipal waste treatment plant. It's terrible, since Chicago used to be so cool and smell like kielbasa sometimes. But now it's gone downhill and smells like dead rats most of the time, and and like fat sweaty Midwesterners other times.

The Chicago Tourism Board should bring back that authentic "Back of the Yards" aroma to give it a sense of place. Nothing like miles of slaughterhouse juices to spice up the air.

What I find so amusing is that Rufus thinks that every single square inch of manhattan needs to be 'gentrified' in order for it to qualify as a nice place in his mind. And we all know 'gentrification' to Rufus means lots of new construction glass condos, preferably by Trump, along with an absence of projects. Those two things apparently make a place heaven on earth. Which makes me wonder why Rufus doesn't live in Dubai.
