Discussion about
does anyone know anything about the 3 bed units in this building (there are 3 avail - a couple on the market a really long time). Any info on neighborhood would be useful too. Thanks in advance. http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/building/45-east-89-street-new_york
There is a lady in this building, handles a bunch of the rentals. Always wears some goofy paddington type hat. Very eclectic, thinks she is the queen bee. Purposefully makes you think she is doing you a favor by letting you have the opportunity to live there.
Saw a 3bd years ago, seemed nice, but kinda small.
Looks like smoke at the top of the building!
Let me know what you hear. Looked at one of them quite some time ago, wonder now whether it's still listed.
I live right there and the neighborhood is stellar. You are a block from Central Park and the reservoir (if you are a runner that's key); a block from the Guggenheim and a couple of blocks from the Cooper Hewitt, the Met, Jewish Museum, etc.(great culture); in PS 6 (one of the best school districts in the city); it retains a quiet neighborhood feel (allowing you to escape the grittiness and bustle of the city), but at the same time, you are only a couple of blocks away from the commercial activity on lex/3rd/2nd, you are close to a major (albeit crowded) subway line.
As for the building - who can say anything bad about a building that has a pool on the top floor?

So very true! She seems nice enough, however she constantly pushes down your throat how exclusive the building is. I have pointed out (to her!) a number of times that many of her listings have sat stagnant for months, and she has flat out told me "this building isnt affected by the economy". I laugh each time she says it, only to see the prices creep down a few weeks/months later. Bottom line is if you want something there (rental or purchase), and you are willing to deal with her "eccentricities", stand firm and point out (over and over!) the downward trend of the prices at that location. She is a true old school "prices never go down" broker, so just be aware of that prior to contacting her.
joepa- are there any renovation plans for the building shared spaces? I know the lobby is done. Also can you access the garage from the building elevator?
All- thanks for the heads up on eccentric hat lady and her myopic view of the market (which seems to be shared by many).
