Any thoughts as to the quality of east village public schools?
there are some good elem schools-neighborhood, earth, evcs. clara hemphill books or insideschools.org should have good info, maybe urbanbaby.com msge boards too. not sure about middle schools or hs though.
Sorry deepwoof - but the East Village got screwed when it came to public school zoning. Earth School and Neighborhood School are both very good, but as charter schools they only accept a few students, often by lottery divided by race - for example one year Earth accepted 3 white kids. East Village Community school is OK, but depends on the teacher, and there tends to be discipline problems. You can try and apply for NEST, but while they are supposed to favor District 1 applicants, in the past they haven't.
Definitely check the urban baby boards - you'll get a lot more information there.
thanks for this full response, and for the tips for further reference, you two.
check www.insideschools.org its a searchable site and has all info about NYC Public schools
#3, are there other schools like NEST in the city, preferably UWS, UES?
