WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A record 32.2 million people -- one in every 10 Americans -- received food stamps at the latest count, the government said on Thursday, a reflection of the recession now in its 16th month. Food stamps, the major U.S. anti-hunger program, help poor people buy groceries. The average benefit was $112.82 per person in January. The January figure marks the third time in five months that enrollment set a record. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE5314B320090402
So... uh...
Food stamp giver outers will buy our new condos!
No, unless they're slavefare workers:
“They are wasting city funds to force people to do sometimes ‘make-work’ jobs in order to get fully funded federal benefits,” said Joel Berg, the executive director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger.
“Saying that in order to get a measly portion of food you have to work extra hours just doesn’t seem like a way to promote economic growth and promote self-sufficiency,” he added.

OMG, the mayor wants everyone to know that work is the better way out of poverty. Take that, you newly unemployed laggards. Get off your lazy behinds and go pick up some garbage off the street because we can't afford the sanitation vehicles any longer. And if you have young children, who cares? Keep pickin' up the refuse and we may gave give you enough money for some rice and beans.
Welfare of the 1970's is here people you can only collect unemployment for so long.
