Barking dogs and coop/condo boards

I had similar problem when I moved-dog barking during the adjustment to new home, new sounds etc. One neighbor complained and the mgmt company basically said that unless the barking was constant and/or during the "quiet hours" established by the house rules that it wasn't a problem at all. No barking during the quiet hours, the judge wont save the dog. Remember people need sleep to function properly.

This is clearly OT.
I love dogs but, starting to hate dog owners.
1. My front door is not your dogs urinal.
2. The reason we put barriers around trees is so your dog wont pee on the tree and kill it.
3. Pick up your dog's shit! If you have a dog with IBS have whatever you need with you to clean up after your dog COMPLETELY!!!
4. crub your dog....That means the CURB not my building or my front steps.
5. Bloomybigbucks could make us a small fortune writing tickets to these urban keepers of live stock.

What is the point of all of these unnecessary comments? Many people love dogs and want to take care of them when they get older.

The barking collars are a bit cruel, Ive seen them in action and I swear I heard my gf's dog say "Don't taze me bro."

Get a food container that opens on a timer in the morning.Use peanut butter, it's kinda hard to say anything with a mouthful of Jiffy.

truthskr, there is a collar that releases an odor dogs dislike as well as the one that shocks. We have a yorkie who only barks when people come to the door or strangers enter the apartment. I'm seriously considering the odor one, the food guy was here for six hours yesterday and the dog drove me insane.

The odor one sounds better, problem is dogs smell like we see, hear, and smell combined. What a human may hypothesize as a humane punishment may be far worse than we conceive.
Out of our scent, out of mind.

I am not a PETA freak, don't get me wrong, but I think we have a lot to learn from what animals really see, hear and feel.

I'm going to ask my vet about it. If he says it's inhumane I won't use it. Obviously it must be unpleasant or it wouldn't work. Hopefully it's not too punitive.

Aboutready, the odor collar is called a citronella collar. We tried it and it didn't work for our dog. One problem is that the scent is contained in a cannister which runs out quickly and must be replaced after 20 scent emissions or so. I was concerned that the spray might get into our dog's eyes, but it's placed around the neck under the dog's snout.

i know a women who had her dogs vocal cords severed so as to stop the sound -- not the barking... I think her throat should be slit re: same.

lobster, thanks for the info. our dog doesn't bark often, but does so with a passion when she feels the need. it may not work, but i'll try it. i do think that dogs will be dogs, but if i can reduce it without too much discomfort i'd love to do so.

I tried citronella collar. It worked like a charm on the dog. Incessant barking reduced 90%. Then she figured out that if she barked constantly for 10 mins straight it would empty the canister and she wouldn't have to be concerned about the pesky collar for the rest of the day

villager that is too funny!!! i have one in the box for my barker and am too much of a wimp to use it!!! everyone does say it is perfectly humane. I have a rescue and a bit of a barker, what worked was a spray bottle with water. it's worth a shot.
as far as the condo/coop board- it is ny. people have dogs and dogs do bark. only you really know how bad the problem is, but from what you describe it does not seem that bad at all..
