Discussion about
Does anyone know how much it costs (very approximately) to install city windows? We are considering renting a condo apt which is perfect in every way except noise outside one bedroom window. We are trying to convince the owner to install city windows there, but would perhaps consider doing it ourselves or figuring out some other cost sharing arrangement. Thanks.

approx. 800$ for a small bedroom(we chose the cheapeat/thinnest glass because we needed it for isolation/air draft, not for noise reduction) we used cityproof, maybe you can find more info on their website.I think the thickest glass, for noise reduction was 100-200 more.

One of my neighbors just got a quote this week from one of these firms- It was around $1,400 per window for the model with a 90% noise reduction (the thicker glass, but I don't think this is the thickest). The window size for this quote was for a larger window- about 71 by 45.

Very helpful, thanks. In the context of a $4000-$5000 / month apartment, seems like a no-brainer.

If you a temporary fix, I got insulating-roomdarkening curtains from Target and they really helped reduce noise. They cost about $25 a pair at Target and almost $50 at Bed Bath & Beyond (I have a pair of each) and there's no difference between them.

Best of luck!

Also, if there's an in wall AC, it's about $500 to build a sound proof surround, to further dampen sound thru the City Windows companies. Apparently, if you don't also put a barrier around the AC, sound travels thru the large whole in the wall. (Some ACs are sound proof however, you may want to look into that too).

It takes approx 5 weeks for your windows to be built and installed. You will need to provide to City Windows the information for a certificate of insurance for the apartment owner and the building.

GL!
